Maegan was an organ donor.

At the end of her life, Maegan was able to give the gift of organ and tissue donation. Her generosity has had and will continue to have a tremendously positive impact on many families, medical students, and researchers.

Maegan’s organ donation was managed by Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA). Maegan’s family were supported in this decision with the help of Shannen Simpson, BSN, RN, Hospital Services Coordinator. Her compassion and kindness were a tremendous source of comfort and guidance.

STA held their annual Flag Raising Ceremony in April. Maegan was honored during the events at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene and Brownwood, TX.

My Final Gift

It is now time for me to move on
Into the dusk, but also the dawn.
I will remain as the morning comes
As I’ve left behind a gift for someone.
So another may walk, may talk, may see,
Where their lives were locked,
I offered a key.
I am a donor to someone in need.
My final gift, my final deed.

The Donate Life flag in the photo above was raised in honor of Maegan at the hospital on December 9, 2022.

How to Donate

There are 3 ways you can indicate that you want to be a donor:

  • Register with your state’s donor registry. Most states have registries. Check the list at organdonor.gov.
  • Designate your choice on your driver’s license. Do this when you obtain or renew your license.
  • Tell your family. Make sure your family knows your wishes regarding donation.
